A number of drunk people have been shot when they broke into a house they though was their own. The main difference between an Alzheimer patient and a drunk is that the drunks condition is self-inflicted. There are plenty of violent and non-violent people who may try to trespass on to private property for a variety of reasons both lawful and unlawful.
The onus to determine the legitimacy of others actions should not be at the detriment of a property owner.
I think we should start a thread about the book "Of Mice and Men", and its legal aspects.
