OK, some lessons we can take from this experience.
1. Things can happen quickly and within bad breath distance.
2. It's not good to be within bad breath distance, watch what's going on around you and cross the street or something.
3. Even from several feet away, someone can rush us/knock us down before we can access a weapon. Seriously, 20-30 feet can be covered in 1.5-2 seconds by a fast young punk.
To recognize that threat, then get a CONCEALED weapon out is not going to be as smoothly done as when you are practicing with no emotional stress (assuming one practices drawing from concealment at home - unloaded -double check unloaded - or air soft of course!).
4. It's good to have some realistic unarmed skills, because you just might have to fight.
On that last note, I just happened to see that there's a good deal for new students at the Minnesota Kali Group http://www.mnkali.com
Rick Faye, and his instructors, offer premium training in a lot of street effective skills. I'd encourage everyone here to check out his school. They are offering some kind of deal on "google offers" on June 2nd. Take advantage or tell someone else about it. I GET NOTHING FOR THIS! I just believe it's that good of info to share. Judo and Jujitsu can also be good for hands on training.
Here's the standard offer for a free week of "sampling the goods".
"Come try us out for a Free trial week of classes!
To the Prospective/New Student:
Welcome to the most exciting and innovative Martial arts school in the Twin Cities. This is the most fun you will have while learning serious martial arts. During your trial week you are welcome to try our classes over a period of seven consecutive days. Come in and use the facility as well. . ."
