Heffay - you sure about that?

You think that upon your guess; because someone might have been in a fight at some point in their life they are a thug? I suppose that makes me a thug, and essentially most of the population. I guess that you are a superlative example of a citizen - above all and able to pass your judgment upon all as inferiors.

I stand before you a humbled man, will you ever forgive me for being a thug by your definition?

No, I'm not sure. I was asked what I think. That's what I think.

Also, I specified starting a fight. Defensive fighting only makes sense when you can't run away.

Pretty much. When they said "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone," I'm the guy at the front of the line.

Well, you are so special in so many ways. I supose that you have rotator cuff damage from patting yourself on the back for being such a good boy.

If that is really how you feel, that is really how you feel and that says it all.

I hope that you have a blessed day...

I don't need to pat myself on the back, when you're so willing to do it for me. Thanks! :-)

Innocent until proven guilty - even if you're a cop. Pretty unfortunate that he left the scene, however. Not looking good.

My $0.02...

Not on duty when he threw the punch?

Then his profession is irrelevant.

He did nothing under the color of law, so in that respect, absolutely...

...and if he isn't treated any differently by the local DA & the courts than would be a non-LEO, then it will continue to be irrelevant.

I hope that ends up being the case - we shall see...

+1

Nothing I've seen so far indicated that his profession played any role in the encounter.

tman, you are right. Just that being a "professional" should have given him better judgement in that type of a situation.. If no other reason then his experience doing that job. It wasn't a split second shoot or don't shoot situation.

Pinnacle, you don't have to BE a goon to ACT like a goon.. Do you know Gifford? I don't ( he maybe a great guy, and officer), but a goon type act, is still acting like a goon.

As far as the MPD or any other PD I thank them for their work! Certainly not a low stress job, but one that's needed more than ever..

I completely agree that one should not judge someone by another persons actions. However, I do believe that the profession of this particular individual is relevant. I am not judging other LEO's. Sgt. David Clifford may have anger management issues. If Sgt. David Clifford escalated the situation instead of diffusing it, I question his ability to perform his professional duties.

As someone who is ACLS, PALS, TNCC and CCRN certified, I am held to a higher standard outside of my workplace than your average person.

Considering the nature of the person's profession, why would that be different in this instance?
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

Irrelevant to his right to a fair trial and sentencing guidelines, if it comes to that. It should be the same justice system no matter his occupation. Unless he makes a claim that he was attempting to make an arrest or working undercover*

Relevant when it comes to whether or not he gets to keep his job if found guilty (as it is in many jobs besides law enforcement).

I certainly hope he wouldn't get to keep his job if he's found guilty. You can't be a prison screw with something like on your record, so I'm guessing you couldn't be a cop either.

There have been people who've been disciplined internally after getting arrested even though all charges were dropped. I think it's complete nonsense and an overreach by the employer (especially when it happens outside of work), but I wonder if the same will happen to this police Sergeant.

The attacker's lawyer brought up his profession today saying that because the attacker is a MPLS Police Officer he read the body language of the victim as attacking. The only people who seem to have been bothered by the victim were the attacker's wife and the two people they were there with. Everyone else and the video says something else. I really hope this guy gets to enjoy prison for a few years. Assuming everything that has come out so far is factual.

Booze always brings out the best in people. That's why I avoid bars. Would have been nice to have had some BAC info on both. Was he carrying ?
