I hate hearing stories like this but seriously in that neighborhood at that time unarmed? Not in my lifetime.
I hope they catch these scumbags.

I know Mike and he is a great guy, to hear about this happening to him is sickening.

My girlfriend jogs along there daily and has never had a problem. I showed this to her last night and suggested that she start carrying when she is running, especially since she listens to her iPhone while she runs and is a small woman. It kind of freaked her out because it is a beautiful neighborhood and nice to run through.

Perhaps she'll start carrying more and learn to run faster. Both of those things are good for her.

This is so dang tempting to do, but my awareness would go right out the window.

I've wondered about that as well. I've never been a runner, but I listen while I bike and don't have too many problems. I do tend to listen at low volumes (as opposed to rocking the house when working at home) so that I can still hear my surroundings. I'm not certain what volume she listens at, but she's not a big fan of super loud music anyway and is generally pretty observant, runs in daylight, during busier times, avoids putting herself in blatantly bad positions, etc. Regardless of your precautions, if six individuals want to get at you and you are unarmed, chances are they will. Even armed, it is still possible being that you are that outnumbered and can't simply indiscriminately fire your weapon at multiple moving targets in a neighborhood. I mean, you can, but yikes.

Iraq War vet attacked while out for a jog

I assume the successful thug can read his victims' state of situational awareness, and other vulnerabilities quite well. Headphones simply say: "PICK ME, PICK ME"
Aside from missing the local sounds and noises, music is a distraction. For me, it's reserved for the bike trainer and treadmill, where such distractions are desirable.
I try to avoid urban workouts unless I'm in a group, or a heavily used time and place.

Can you about imagine...... What the recourse of this would have been if he had been carrying and shot some kid who was beating the **** out of him? Hmmmmm......? Bet the media would have crucified him before the facts were out! Sound Familiar? :?

Robbinsdale Police say they also talked to a man at North Memorial Hospital who said he was the victim of a similar attack with five teenagers near Lyndale and Upton Ave North.

I'd like to know where Lyndale crosses Upton. My guess is they meant Lowry and Upton, but great fact checking there.
