Under that theory, should there not be a 'violence tax' on knives, baseball bats, snow balls, tree limbs, etc?

The $25 tax on every gun purchased in the county -- city law prohibits gun sales in Chicago -- is meant to offset health care and other costs of gun violence, Board President Toni Preckwinkle said.

I thought Obama care would take care of this because it provides free health care? :?

Seriously, does anyone think that this $25 tax will go to any hospital or clinic to cove the cost of them treating gang-bangers that shoot each other. No, it is just a way for Illinois to create more revenue to waste on their social programs and feel good projects.

There is a significant culture difference between Chicago and the Twin Cities. The odds of it happening here are about the same as us passing a voter ID constitutional amendment, or banning gay marriage.

Heffay has his blinders on too tight again.

The ordinance is here:
http://cookcountygov.com/ll_lib_pub_coo ... wArgs=1612

These are the whereas-es: (you can ignore the ammunition --that's tabled for now.)

WHEREAS, the County of Cook is a home-rule unit of local government, pursuant to Article VII, Section 6(a) of the Illinois Constitution; and

WHEREAS, as a home-rule county, the County of Cook is authorized to impose and collect a tax on the sale of firearms and firearm ammunition within the County of Cook (“County”); and

WHEREAS, the purchase, presence, flow, and use of firearms and ammunition in the County exposes the general public to significant injury and harm, and detracts from the public health, safety, and welfare; and

WHEREAS, the purchase, presence, flow, and use of firearms and ammunition in the county detrimentally affects the county’s provision of personnel, services, and equipment associated with the public health, safety, and welfare.

You have some numbers to back that up?

Kirby Puckett migrated from Chicago.

But seriously, back in 1990, or so, a juvenile division investigator from MPD did a presentation that talked about the gang activity that was rising in the cities and how a lot of those arrested were from Chicago.

Anecdotal, of course, but the presentation was quite interesting.

The report is 20 years old but now you can provide something to show it has changed right? Right?

So, even if you doubled the number of migrants to the state, you're talking a total of 0.6% of the population. And that's not from Chicago; that's from ALL across the country. Only about 10% comes from Illinois.

Wow... the Chicagoification of Minnesota is a huge threat to our way of life!!!

You are whitewashing the fact that it is thousands of people concentrated in the inner city, likely public housing. That can make a subculture shift.
