It may be a compromise as well.

"Compromise" "Common Sense" "Reasonable"

Did I miss anything?

Just that if you never compromise, you'll eventually be run over.

Case in point: 2012 elections.

I agree, 2012 elections conservatives tried to focus on social issues and lost sight of the prize. Compromise would have been to leave the gays and immigrants alone.

So, what's it going to be this time? Same strategy of refusing to discuss the issue, or are we going to get a seat at the big boys table this time?

I've brought up a few compromises. Some that even benefit us in the long term. Or is even discussing compromise make me a liberal gun grabber?

I don't like framing them in the terms "common sense" and "reasonable". Infringement on a right is never common sense or reasonable. Nearly all measures proposed are an unreasonable nonsensical infringement.

I've done my part - Klobuchar, Franken and McCollum will all three be getting letters from me in the next few days asking for them not to support any new gun control measures before first considering all options to prevent violence. Thats my negotiating position.

Would it be compromise to require insurance just in case one yells "fire" in a theater?

For the movie theater? Sure.

You want the gun manufacturers to be forced to carry insurance for the results instead? Cause they can probably make that happen. That seems like a reasonable, common sense compromise to me.

Naw, you can't get insurance that protects you financially in case of a criminal act. Much like demanding someone get insurance to own a firearm on the off chance they'll commit a criminal act with it. No insurance company in the world would touch that No insurance company outside of Nigeria would touch that... -- Lunacy.

There should be a law that "gun insurance" is mandatory for criminals.

Well, according to Chief Justice Roberts, the government can make you get that insurance under the tax code.

Like I said, everyone keep spouting off the "shall not be infringed" line. It'll serve you fantastically when they start voting on the AWB.

The Democrats are probably desperate for the gun lobby to come to the table. Guns are still hugely popular, and passing a new AWB coming into the 2014 elections will be brutal for the incumbents. They are probably looking for something in the middle to gravitate towards. Something that everyone in the end can declare victory (Dems: "We passed gun control!", Reps: "We stopped the AWB and protected rights!") and no one will lose their seat in 2 years.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I think the NRA is smart in shutting down for now. In 2 months when this starts hitting committees, the back-room pressure will start and really slow it down. I still don't think they have a chance of passing a new AWB.

How would us having insurance help anyone when a thug breaks into one of our homes, steals our properly secured firearms and commits a criminal act with them?
I will never apologize for being an American.

Good thing all of my guns were lost in a tragic boating accident.
