Good frakking god, it's amazing what people will compare to slavery.

being disarmed doesn't make you a slave, but it sure makes that transformation a lot easier for the masters.

Slavery comes in all forms. In one form, people willingly become slaves and do so willingly and unwittingly. How? Easy. Look at the zombies walking around with their thumbs flying on their smart phone as they text. At the slightest "buzzzzzzz" they respond to it like a Pavlovian dog. Many can't go 5 minutes without checking their facebook, twitter, texts, email, etc. ...and that's just for the non-work related stuff. Now add in the Crackberry addicts and it's worse.

I have two cell phones, one for work which has text (which I don't use), Internet (which I don't use) and email (which I sparsely use). If I'm not on-call, I don't even carry it on me. My personal phone gets answered when and if I want to. Am I a slave? nope.... but I do see them all the time.

Guns in the right hands and used in the right way help defend personal freedoms, but a brain with common sense will help you even more because many forms of slavery are much more insidious than a full frontal assault.
