Ultimately, that might not bee too bad for the industry in general.
wallyworld treats it's suppliers rather poorly, and selfishly, because they can. With ammo makers free to offer more equitable distribution of their wares, it might get other retailers more regularly re-stocked.
It likely won't slow demand or production, so screw-em.

ETA: Spelling corrections

+1

The ammunition will make it into the market one way or another. If not Wal Mart, then someone else.

I disagree, this is not a good thing. Less competition in the market means higher prices and there are many times when Walmart has been the only consistant option for some of the mainstay stuff.

Do not get me wrong, I love FF as much as the next guy but their ammo supply has always been spotty in the best of times in '08 there were times when they were even out of trap loads for several weeks. Empty shelves are becoming too much the norm and if Walmart is not carrying it I think that just makes it worse.

Just another reason for me not to walk into one of their third world stores. Wal-Mart is a joke and will never treat their employees with respect and honesty.

Then don't work there. Situation solved. You are welcome.

I see the biggest problem of this decision is that with Walmart selling guns (even ARs!) and ammo, it really presented them to the masses as "normal" and not a fringe activity or product. They usually had good prices and availability but the market will find a way to get ammo to the customer. It always does.

This may also be nothing more than Walmart trying to not get stuck with a lot of inventory they can't easily sell if ammo restrictions are put in place. Walmart is know for maximizing profit and just in time inventory, so really this just fits thier business model. Now if they come out with a statement NOT supporting the 2nd amendment, then screw 'em.

I've narrowed my Walmart 'needs' down to 2 things in 2012:

1. Ammo
2. Generic 5-Hour Energy Shots

As of late, the ammo selection has been nil and they stopped carrying the energy shots I enjoyed.

I believe with the stance Fleet Farm has taken in expanding their firearms section in 2012 and being active politically in support of gun rights, I will buy my ammo there when I need it - their prices were always pretty good.

It took a while, but I think I've finally rid myself of Walmart - not for any huge reason, other than feeling like I need a shower when I get out of ours.

And now that Walmart isn't selling the stuff the manufactures/ distributors will have that inventory to make available in large volumes elsewhere.

Oh I buy most of my stuff there, but sure is nice to be able to grab inexpensive ammo at Walmart....I think the more sellers the better. I think Walmart helps force companies like Fleet Farm to keep their prices low on ammunition.

Maybe, that would be nice if the theory holds, but I am a bit skeptical.
