As someone that has a MN teaching license, i can assure you that today's immigrants are nothing like those of even 12 years ago when i was a student in high school myself. The lack of respect for anyone or anything is unbelievable. The old immigrants had to adapt to there new environment in order to survive, in today's society especially here in MN we bend over backwards and take it up the ass for these individuals and they have adapted to take advantage of there situation. I can not specifically speak for minneapolis south but in other schools with a somalia population in my subject area of nearly 40%. 90% of them couldn't even read. but you can bet your life that they know to work the system in order to get anything they want. pretty sad when you think about it. One bright spot, ive been in alot of really good public schools however none of them where in the 7 county metro. I stated the somalia fact because in the video you can clearly see who is instigating situation at South and in the news interviews the students giving interviews were of somalia decent and they were claiming racial discrimination. So if there's any trolls out there that would love to battle me on this... plz bring it on

It's not just a metro problem... Willmar schools have a large problem with people not even attempting to become a part of the "American Dream", but milking the system.

I once had an interesting discussion with a gentleman who immigrated from Cameroon as an adult. While it was not his desire or intention, he was not at all accepted as an African or American by native born "African-Americans"

I have had a similar conversation with a couple of kids that we had in the security office that went to Century over in Midway. They explained to me how people that consider themselves "Black" don't get along with those he considered "African or Somali" or vise versa.

Private schools can be just as bad as the public schools but in a different way. They don't throw the bad asses out either.

Exactly. They (parents) pay huge amounts of money to send them there.

Not huge amounts of money by you standards.

What is a huge amount of money?
Donald Trump got more fat women moving in one day than Michelle Obama did in eight years.

As an immigrants myself who became a naturalized citizen.

I would not hesitate to kick anyone out of our country who does not contribute or lives off of welfare for I dunno 5years? They have to leave...

That's it, I don't want to pay for people who are rude when I have to deal with them and are even worse drivers then old Asian women.

Disclaimer: If you truly believe that you're not a part of the stereotype I listed above then you probably have been contributing to our great nation. Despite where you are where you come from anywhere in the world..

To add onto what goda0301 said, years ago when people came to this country, they really worked at integrating into the culture and learning the language; but at the same time, they kept their own culture going on at home and mixing it into society where and when they could, thus the great melting pot of America was born; but largely they adapted to society rather than expecting society to adapt to them. Not so nowadays. Yes, many do it still, yes, many come here legally and go through a very long and arduous process to do it the right way, all true, but many do not, and it's those which are causing the problems. Just like events involving guns, it's not the legally owned and legally used ones by the legal owners causing problems; it's the people who steal and illegally own and illegal use guns that are the issue. Law-abiding people are never the problem when it comes to crime and other illegal acts.

I hate to say it, but if you don't adapt to the society and the societal culture you've emigrated to, you will always be treated as a second class citizen. If I moved to Germany, even though most Europeans learn English as a second language, I'd learn to speak German and use it as my primary for of communication. Same thing with writing it as well. Same thing with learning the history, culture, etc. I would have moved to Germany, Germany would not have moved to me. We bend over far too much, allow too much, and are even going make illegal immigrants legal in this country to the tune of 11 million of them. I'm all for closing the boarders and kicking all of the illegals out, including all the ones Castro sent here years ago, which were the dregs of Cuban society.

I've had it to the point where I refuse to speak with someone in a call center that isn't American. Nope. Sorry. Can't understand your accent. get me to an American.

If I go out to fast food and they can't communicate properly, sorry, get me to someone who can or I'll go elsewhere. If you work in a service industry and you can't communicate with someone in English, you shouldn't have your job. Go be a janitor where you don't need to communicate with people.

Nope. I won't "Press 1 for English" Why the heck should I have to choose my own language in my own country? If I moved to another country, do you think that'd be an option? Nope. Probably not.

I don't speak Spanglish, Spanish or anything but good old American English.

I'm sure I'll get flamed, called a troll, all sorts of snarky comments, called a bigot, intolerant, etc. Go for it. Don't care. Never have. Never will. I'm only saying what the silent majority is thinking.

I hope your not an English teacher! (If so, maybe that's why these kids can't read?) I think it's a bit ironic that your putting down foreigners for not being able to read, you have a teaching license and aren't familiar with basic grammar. I'm not proclaiming to be a grammar master, nor do I usually like the "grammar Nazis" on the internet, but I'm also not bashing foreigners for not being able to read.

"I" should be capitalized when referring to yourself. Minneapolis and Somalia should both be capitalized. There are no such words as "ive" or "alot", it should be "I've" and "a lot". When you use the phrase "take advantage of there situation", the word your looking for is "their". Not only did you not capitalize the beginning of this sentence, "pretty sad when you think about it.", it's not even a complete sentence, what's pretty sad?

So next time you want to put some people down for not being edjumacated as good as yous is, maybe if you use some proper grammar, you won't look like such a racist.

You made a grammatical error, therefore your argument is invalid. I always love that one....the troll is back folks.

Any school CAN be bad. Holding your kids out of school because you don't think any of them are good enough? Glad I'm not your kid. Guessing you probably don't have kids either.

I agree.

However...... I think what is immediately valid is the effort. If someone comes here and doesn't even try to assimilate or want to, expecting to have brochures and papers in 15 different languages, to accommodate them and the expense of others, then I have a major problem with that.

I understand you didn't claim to be a grammar expert, but if you are going to criticize someone's grammar it behooves you to be careful about yours too.
