An 8-year-old girl made an unusual discovery in a Minneapolis park Monday night.
Aurelie Burston found a round of ammunition for a bazooka rocket launcher near a tree in Columbia Park on the city’s northeast side.
“I thought, like, it was a bomb or a rocket,” said Burston. Her older brother, Lucian, quickly offered to buy it from her.
“I’d give all the money I had for that rocket,” Lucian Burston told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. Aurelie agreed to the deal and sold it to him for $4.
The children took it home and showed their grandmother, Sue Latham. She looked it up on the internet and learned it was a two-foot, nine-pound dummy rocket head for a super bazooka rocket launcher.
“I was relieved actually to find out it was a practice rocket,” said Latham.
After learning what her grandchildren had found, Latham called police to turn it in.
Minneapolis Police took the device away and are treating the case as a criminal investigation.
