Meeker county reduced Permit to Carry Fee

I missed this entirely last January.

Hundreds of Meeker County gun owners learned last month that they won’t have to pay as much this year to obtain a permit to carry a firearm.
Starting Jan. 1, county residents pay only $40 for a carry permit and pay only $35 to renew a permit, which expires after five years. Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, who sent letters to permit holders on Dec. 6 informing them of the fee reduction, said he could no longer justify charging a $100 fee for a permit.
State law requires sheriff offices to put revenue generated from carry permit fees into a legal defense fund, which covers a sheriff against any legal action taken by a permit applicant. State law also mandates counties charge a maximum of $100 for a carry permit and only what it costs to administer permit applications, a process that involves conducting background checks.
We reap what we sow. In our case, we have sown our government.

Read in the Hutchinson Leader online last week that Mcleod county was lowering their permit fees. Can't find the article now, but thought I read $75 for initial, $50 for renew. Didn't really pay that much attention to the article other than a "aw shucks" I just moved out of Mcleod and relocated to Meeker. Seeing this, now I'm thinking "Heck YES!".

McLeod hasn't lowered it yet. I went in last monday for mine and it was still 100.. Not sure what the wait is here in McLeod county either. I have seen guys say in some counties it's 20 days all the way up to 30.

I don't know if they do any different background check than the one they do for the permit to purchase, but i just renewed my permit to purchase in January, so my background was ran then. So i was kinda thinking it probably won't take the whole 30 days for mine, because it was ran recently. But due process might make it still take 4 weeks.

Got mine 4 years ago, but it was just about two weeks. And that was over the Christmas holiday, don't know if that has changed.
