I thought this was a good segment. I'm pleased that Ms. Miller actually took the time to try shooting. I doubt her mind was changed but perhaps a tiny bit of light was shed on the subject.

There was another good segment with Dan Baum on Monday that is also worth listening to.

Both women dissed the NRA and claimed to not be members.!

I'm a member and even I think the NRA is the Walter Sobchak of issue advocacy. They're not wrong, but they are ********.

That **** LaPierre said at the Newtown was right in that banning stufff isn't going to help, but the way in which he said it, and the way he went on about 15 year old video games was pure derp.

To paraphrase: The NRA is the worst gun rights organization in the United States, except for all the other ones. (GOCRA excepted. They're **** brilliant and the NRA could learn a thing or two from them.)

SAF is a really good national gun rights organization, but they don't have the money, power, or name recognition of the NRA. You can change that by joining and donating. (see my signature for a link to do so.)

I may not agree with the NRA on 100% of the issues or 100% of their tactics, but I don't agree with my church on 100% of their issues either...I still am a member of both and donate to both because they both do very good things with my money.

Why don't you guys go start a new thread to axe grind about the NRA instead of pooping in every thread in which it gets mentioned?

Back to the topic at hand...

I thought this was one of the more important admissions of the whole article:

"I also realized that those three hours at the range had demystified guns in a way that years of covering the debate about them never has. I doubt that I'll be showing up at the range anytime soon. But the target — with its 25 bullet holes — now hangs on the wall in my house."

.. one of the best things all gun owners can do is take opportunities to educate people who never been exposed to guns (outside of media horror stories) to the activity in a safe and positive way.

I was taken by the statement you highlighted as well...
self loathing? denial?

I have a feeling there are many like her who are conflicted by the fact they enjoyed themselves as they were exposed to the reality of shooting sports.

I can imagine the grins if she, and a bunch of friends lined up with a timer and row of bowling pins.

Yep I have turned around several ladies with some actual shooting time! As soon as they shoot and see that they can control the evil gun in their hand.
They go from being worried to this is fun and WOW I am having a good time ! I start with a .22 and then let them shoot an AK or AR.

The AK or AR always leads to big smiles.
