I said he has first hand EXPERIENCE with dealing with a blind student in both MN and ND.

There's a major difference.

What I wrote is quoted from a post from you, so yes - you did actually write that. ;)

I am not doubting you one bit.

Look at it from a different perspective.

You have a screen name here that does not match your place of business.

"The Last Gun Stop" has been offered as a name. So has Koscielski’s Guns and Ammo.

Not everyone knows all of those names are tied together. For all some know, you pulled it from a news story or else talking with someone over coffee. I know I didn't know all were connected.

If I had a student that did something like this, I would have likely acted the same way. But some lurk on forums like this for various reasons.

I hope the guy gets what's coming to him.

I believe Phorvick got himself into a pickle not own making a couple years ago. Trying to deal with a blind student.

You did tell me to look him up here - so I did... and that's all I found on the subject, ironically it happened to be a post by you saying he got himself into a pickle. I take it that's not what you wanted me to find. :?

Don't blame me for taking your advice... I was honestly trying to learn more on the subject.

Edit:
Like I said, I never said I was either for or against it... but I'm curious how it plays out when getting a permit to carry, there are some qualifications that must be met.

To address a point made earlier - Buying for collection purposes doesn't require a permit to carry, and can be obtained free of charge.

This is all too true. So many have no idea that "legally blind" encompasses so much more than being totally blind. Legal blindness is defined as having 20/200 or worse eyesight in the best eye after correction. That is, they can see at 20 feet what the rest of us can see at 200 feet. As it is not difficult to shoot a target at 100 yards (300 feet) with open sights, I can't see why most legally blind persons are incapable of defending themselves at arms length or a bit more. Again, it is a large part restricted seeing we are talking about, not just total blindness.

I have a brother in law who is legally blind but does shoot with corrective lenses. He only does out to 50 feet with an air rifle but he is a pretty good shot. My junior high art teacher was also declared legally blind but he was a well respected painter of scenery (realistic paintings, not something from Picasso) and was able to toss a plastic worm up under boats and docks for bass- again with corrective lenses. From these people I can't see not allowing the blind to purchase, own, and use firearms. As with others I can see even the totally blind having a use and opportunity to use a firearm for their self defense. It may be hard for us sighted folk to understand but an open mind goes a long way.

Exactly this. The controversy here is one created by headline writers.

Some perspective regarding definition of "blind"

Postby Makarov on Tue Sep 10, 2013 11:30 am

There should be no undo concern about a person who is "legally blind" owning and carrying a gun.

The new definition of legally blind by the SSA is here:
http://lighthouse.org/about-low-vision- ... blindness/
Anything less than 20/100 with zero recognition of any of the eye chart letters - quote from the link:
For example, if the person's best-corrected visual acuity for distance in the better eye was determined to be 20/160 using an ETDRS chart, they would now be classified as legally blind.

My uncorrected vision is far worse than 20/200.
With out eyeglasses, I would very easily be classified "legally blind".
http://www.mdsupport.org/library/acuity.html
20/20 vision is 0.0 to -0.25
20/200 vision is -2.00 to -2.50
My best eye is -5.25 with out eyeglasses.
With eyeglasses, my vision is slightly better than 20/20 :geek:

With out my eyeglasses:
I can easily drive around home and areas that I know.
I've done this as a self test with my wife riding shotgun....just to find out if I could.
I can see the traffic signs and know what they are by the general shapes, color and placement.
I can easily see other vehicles and people walking along the road.

Walking around in the house and outside with out correction is no problem at all.
Toss a quarter and a 9mm brass on the ground 3 or 4 ft front of me and I can easily see there are 2 objects there and tell which one is which. Around 7 or 8 feet it becomes hard to tell the difference.

Maybe this will help you decide.
Target shot with 12 rounds at 21 ft, no eye correction, Taurus 709 Slim, factory sights ;)
I should add that I shot rapidly, not as fast as I maybe could have with practice, but I've never tried shooting w/o eyeglasses before either.

I recall a few months ago that Stevie Wonder was pissed off that he could buy a firearm, just like anybody else. I guess he feels that he should be discriminated against!

I don't think he is pissed off because he can buy a gun. He's pissed off because you can.

That would take special permissions from those in strategy. There are reasons it is talked there and not in general conversation.
