this must be a false report - Homeland Security is in charge of making sure this doesn't happen and they have tightened security at all Federal Buildings......................

All sarcasm aside, a terrible tragedy and my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of the cowardly act.

It will be interesting to find out how the accomplices factor in - sounds like 2 got away.

Well, 12 dead counts. Sadly, the focus will be on the weapons, not the person behind them. We know that.

Good lord! I am reading this story right now on CNN's website it has this little tidbit.....

In Seattle, police said they arrested Alexis in 2004 for shooting out the tires of another man's vehicle in what Alexis later told detectives was an anger-fueled "blackout."............Police referred the case to what they described in paperwork as Seattle Municipal Court.

But the Seattle City Attorney’s Office said Monday that it never received a police report documenting the malicious mischief.

“Thus, we didn’t review it for possible charges,” spokeswoman Kimberly Mills said in an email.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/16/us/dc-navy-yard-gunshots/

More about that incident here:

http://blogs.seattletimes.com/today/2013/09/washington-navy-yard-shooter-once-lived-in-seattle/

And he still gets clearance to work on a secure military installation? I would think something like that would have blacklisted him forever from that kind of work.

Oh, I didn't know Glock made shell casings.. :cogitating:
Police collected three spent .45-caliber Glock shell casings at the site.

Oh then there is this....
Alexis was arrested in Fort Worth on Sept. 5, 2010, for discharging a gun in the Fort Worth city limits, according to The Associated Press. But Melody McDonald, spokesperson for the Tarrant County District Attorney, says he was never charged with a crime in Tarrant County.

Did this guy just fall through every crack in the system or what?

This has got to be one of the oddest written stories I've seen about a mass shooter.
They refer to him as "Mr. Alexis" throughout. I can't honestly recall other mass shooters being referred to as Mr _____Lanza? Holmes? Harris? Klebold?. Maybe I missed the stories.

EDIT: I stand corrected. I have now found 2 stories that call him "Mr. Alexis". I guess that is more common than I thought.

Exactly. And UBC is their current rallying cry. The shooter went through two different federal background check.

I did read that security footage showed that he entered with only a Biden Home Defense brand double-barrel shotgun, got the pistol from the first guard after killing him with the shotgun, got the rifle from the DC cop that was coming to investigate the first shooting.

AR15 was stolen from victim...

"But law enforcement officials told NBC News they believed he arrived packing only the shotgun, which he bought last week from a gun dealer in Lorton, Va., about 20 miles from Washington."

I think it may be prudent to ban all assault rifles from military bases. This wouldn't have happened if that were the case

I have been through:

1) A company background check including a drug screening.

2) A TSA background check so I can have access to certain systems and possess a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card.

3) A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) background check for the Customs and Immigration Service (CIS), which was conducted by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). It was a Public Trust Investigation, which is a form of clearance.

4) I have had many other background checks, including fingerprinting, for various other agencies, state police, etc.

5) NICS background check for a PTP and PTC.

I've never gone on a spree and never will. The UBC is bunk, just like Gun Control. It doesn't matter what someone goes through, if they want to go ballistic, they will. Heck, someone with Yankee White Clearance (which is the level needed to guard the President), could go rouge and crazy too. It doesn't matter how much checking is done on someone.
