I am endlessly amazed by the naiveté/ condition white of so many people…. leaving laptops/ phones loose, in the open at coffee shops, restaurants when they go to the rest room, order pick up, etc. Women who leave their purses in shopping carts, when they are 20+ feet away, with their earbuds in…. people, especially young women wandering around, zoned out texting….
I'm always amazed at how few people will make eye contact with you as you walk through a crowd.
They might as well be carrying signs saying "easy victim".

Exactly. I once followed a young mother and her 2-ish child into Target. The mother was talking on her cell phone, and the kid followed her (not holding hands, just walking behind). The kid was behind her and in front of me. The mother was focused on her cell phone conversation, It was an abductor's dream come true, and it just made me so sad.
This is the way too many people are - they're willing to let stuff happen to them or anyone, as if someone is always going to look out for them. Real life scenarios like that make excellent examples in self-defense classes, and sadly there's no shortage of them.

I think I'm with you on this; I couldn't just stand by. (With any luck we'll never find out.)

I commend you both for that.

If being self-protective of myself and my family first makes me a bad guy,....well, then I'm a bad guy. I can live with that.

On another note. I'm always amazed how many of you think it's so dangerous to go to the MOA, it's no more dangerous than any other place and safer than many. Unless you live in a nice suburban box with bubble wrap. A whole lot safer than anywhere downtown. It lends some credence to the "soft, white, paranoid suburban white guys" talk you hear from the "progressive" crowd!

I don't believe it's any sense of imminent danger that keeps me out of the moa, as much I have no need for the crowds, noises, and general sensory overload, not unlike most downtown areas.
And as there is little to nothing unique available in such places, I tend to dismiss and avoid them.
