I don't see ANY evidence that he's a gun grabber.

Really? Campaigning for the passage of the Safe Act isn't Gun Grabbing? Why? Because he had a Permit to carry?

Giving him a pass because he is a permit holder is A-Kin to giving Senator Feinstein as pass for the same reason. Yes, she has a Permit To Carry. Makes her less of a "Gun Grabber" does it?

Totally off topic, but Tman, will you be testifying at the capitol this 'season'? GOCRA seems to be more sophisticated all the time and they're telling us the "Anti's" will be coming loaded for Bear. And funded by Bloomberg.

IIRC you were out of uniform...is that a big deal? The Antis had uniformed officers appearing whenever possible. I may be a bit too optimistic given the excellent results we achieved last year. Please pardon the Hi-Jack. :)

Reading the linked and quoted articles, which mention the SAFE Act only as keeping guns out of school, one might agree with your statement.
However investigating the SAFE Act reveals what Gov Coumo calls the toughest gun control law in the country:

Bans possession of any "high-capacity magazines" regardless of when they were made or sold.

Ammunition dealers are required to do background checks, similar to those for gun buyers. Dealers are required to report all sales, including amounts, to the state. Internet sales of ammunition are allowed, but the ammunition will have to be shipped to a licensed dealer in New York state for pickup. Ammunition background checks will begin January 15, 2014

Requires creation of a registry of assault weapons. Those New Yorkers who already own such weapons would be required to register their guns with the state.

Broadens definition of "assault weapon" from two identified features to one

Requires background checks for all gun sales, including by private sellers

Bans the Internet sale of assault weapons

Increases sentences for gun crimes, including upgrading the offense for taking a gun on school property from a misdemeanor to a felony

Requires pistol permit holders or owners of registered assault weapons to have them renewed at least every five years.

Allows law enforcement officials to pre-emptively seize one's firearms without a warrant or court order when there is probable cause the individual is mentally unstable or intends to use the weapons to commit a crime

I don't buy that this guy was unaware he was armed in the school, and I would cut him zero slack.

See what a little prodding can accomplish? A well researched argument.

That is an excellent question for which I have no answer.
