This makes me laugh:

Hoffman said the couple were returning to Minnesota after visiting friends in Colorado and may have had a camping knife with them.

He said they were returning to face pending criminal charges with hopes they could then move on and start a new life together.

“They were two people in love looking to start their lives over,” he said. “They weren’t violent people. Something went horribly wrong.”

Hoffman said Serbus didn’t own a car or have a driver’s license and the couple had stolen gas to make the drive from Colorado to Minnesota. They were staying with friends in the metro area, he said. “It doesn’t seem right — two people killed over one knife,” he said. “It does open up more questions.”

Yup, a rare view inside the mind of a liberal. Hoffman refers only to stolen gas. Failed to mention the gas was inside a car.

I hope the many armed officers weren't all issuing commands. And if they were, I hope they were all issuing the same command.

I doubt the result would have been any different, though. This guy wasn't going back to jail, and she didn't learn from his mistake.

My personal favorite - they where returning here in a stolen car to face charges of stealing a car and THEN apparently start a new life.

How could the cops be in danger?? it's not a one on one situation like you mentioned. There was no reason to kill them in that scenario.

THEY had complete control of the outcome. THEY chose to get shot by their own actions.

^^^^^^^^^^^^This is exactly right!

Everyday you have choices to make. Every choice you make will effect the outcome of your day and of your life. When you get pulled over, it's YOUR choice to do things right, or wrong. They probably knew the minute they stole that car in Colorado that they were in trouble. And now that they had an accident, and left the scene, and then caught speeding, it only escalated the situation. And now that they were stopped and crashed into that wall, they probably weren't thinking rationally. And knew that they were going to get 3 hots and a cot for a long time.

Sure, it seems or sounds dumb to some people that the LEO's shot them over a knife. But, they had a choice to get out of the car and cooperate, get out of the car without any sort of weapon except the nikes they had on and try to run, or they had the choice to get out holding a knife. They get out and cooperate, nothing happens. They get out and try to run, they get tackled and caught, cuffed, and hauled downtown. They get out and holding a weapon, well, you see the outcome. The LEO's don't know these people. What if this guy would have thrown the knife at one of the LEO's and killed him? They have to protect themselves. I say, the LEO's made the right choice.
