I don't see anyone suggesting that politics is the sole criteria. In fact, I suspect that many stay around until the other reasons you mentioned become less of a factor with age. Second, politics can have a major influence on those other factors, good or bad. I wouldn't base a move on a single election either, but MN has a decades long history of voting liberal and it seems to be getting worse. When was the last time MN went for a Republican President? I'm not going anywhere right now due to some of the reasons you listed, but I'd sure consider it down the road. With the demographic changes taking place, it won't be too long before my views will not matter any more as Hennepin and Ramsey counties steamroll the rest of the state.
