Lol- that's a really bad example. You are aware of the extremely high percentage of Bon a Fide criminals that were including in the Cuban "importation" right? Truth is, we as a country don't need another single, non integrating immigrant from either Mexico or the Middle East for the next 500 years. Don't know about you folks but its time our country changes its stance on immigration. Fix the statute of liberty by removing the flame and instead hold the middle finger. Our country gets screwed over more and more by taking in immigrants. Not like back in the early days when folks that came here to look for work and work hard for a living. Now its come here to get paid (welfare) to sit our there asses while planning the next attack on the hand that feeds them. If you want to call this protectionism, You dam right it is!

First of all the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France, so the words inscribed on the tablets are theirs. Second of all, we have all the examples you need of how well open boarders works in the modern age. The EU is going bankrupt with run away entitlement programs coupled with open boarders.

The idea of political asylum is a neet concept, but the answer isn't take in the worlds poor but to empower those people to self determine their own fate. If they are unwilling to fend for themselves, it doesn't say much for their commitment to being free. The tide is turning in a very disturbing way with our current administrations view of international relations.
