More guns equal more lethal crime. The evidence is convincing. Studies consistently show how increases in firearms ownership are positively associated with increases in homicide and suicide. Whether on the street or in the home, where handguns and rifles are easily available they are more likely to be used in a criminal act. This applies across most wealthy societies and middle-income ones too.

Just after the article is the most informative part...

*Ilona Szabó de Carvalho is the executive director of the Igarapé Institute. See her TED talk on responsible drug and gun regulation.

What is the Igrarape Institute?

The Igarapé Institute or Instituto Igarapé is a Brazilian-based think and do tank that focuses on emerging security and development issues.[1] The Institute's stated approach emphasizes research, informed debate, and the development of people centred tailor-made solutions.[2] The views of Igarapé staff have been cited and referenced in news stories in the Brazilian and international press in connection with urban violence and policing internationally[3][4][5] and Brazil in particular.[6]

The Igarapé Institute is headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with personnel in .

Who is Ilona Szabo? (from her TED talk)

Throughout her career in banking Ilona Szabó de Carvalho never imagined she’d someday start a social movement. But living in her native Brazil, which leads the world in homicidal violence, she realized she couldn’t just stand by and watch drugs and guns tear her country apart. Szabó de Carvalho reveals four crucial lessons she learned when she left her cushy job and took a fearless stand against the status quo.

So, someone who lived a cushy life, in a country that leads the world in homicidal violence, working with people in São Paulo, Brasília, Bogota and Mexico City, (no crime in any of those places) is going to tell the people of the U.S.A. that too many law abiding citizens own guns and are there-fore dangerous. Maybe she should get her own country in order first.

Contrary to popular or unpopular belief it is not guns or drugs that are destroying our country. Although there is a point to be made that drugs could be a contributing factor. But ultimately its the lefties and their insane beliefs and policies which are destroying this country. The beliefs that cops should be hated at all costs, gun ownership is flat out evil, self protection is wrong. But yet lefties are the first to cry if they ever needed them. Even their own beliefs are contrary to their own beliefs. Michael Moore recently stammered about how we need to get rid of law enforcement and open up the prisons and we all know he hates gun owners. Well can someone please explain to me, how would this help anyone? Sounds like a prelude to anarchy. But the lefties cry for over bloated big government. But this philosophy is contrary to big government its the complete anniliation of government. Its anarchy.

Disarming all of us "infidels" would sure make this country easy for Obamas Muslim Brothers to take over. Not that it hasn't already happened.

How exactly is advocating the same worn out, failed leftist policies "a fearless stand against the status quo"?
I will never apologize for being an American.

I tend to use a number of the arguments that this fellow lists, when I talk to gun grabbers....
