Well this is just great

Obviously the incident itself is bad enough for all involved, but this appears to involve a permit holder. That would be one of the first real crimes/killings involving a permit holder (other than the self-defense ones). I'm sure the anti's will have a heyday with it.

I don't see anything about the shooter having a PTC. Am I missing something?

I'll reserve judgment until more details are released.

Eliasen said the gunman had a government-issued permit to carry a firearm.

Was the gunman a Muslim, by chance??

I wonder if the suspect was a retired police officer or other member of LE? That would seem to be more in keeping with the "government issued" qualifier regarding the permit. I don't see a Sheriff using that phrase for a carry permit, even one he may have issued and is trying to distance himself from.

The Red Star article had the reference to the permit. I just don't like giving them any publicity so I linked to the other news site.

Early morning hours, after a party.

Thanks, I didn't find the Tribs article.

Still not much info yet. I'm sure more will come out as the investigation continues.

You think alcohol might be involved?

Well, even if all 4 of those were in the same year and not spread out over a few years, that would still be .00001904 percent of the permit holders in the state of Minnesota (210,000). A staggeringly low percentage. You'd expect that the "human factor" would necessarily show that number to be even a little higher. Just goes to show you that those that care enough to carry a gun legally are not only law abiding citizens, but as a subgroup, are probably more law abiding than any other sub group in our society.
