Cliff notes from the article:

-The owner's wife was working at the store when two customers, a man and his son, entered to pick up a firearm that had been repaired.

-There was some contention about a $25 fee, so in an attempt to clear up the dispute, the woman called her husband, who later arrived with his son.

-An argument ensued between the owners and the customers. During this argument, there was some pushing and shoving.

-One of the customers and one of the owners produced firearms although it's unclear who fired first.

-All four men were shot. The two customers were airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

This is why an armed society has to be a polite society. Do not get physical when guns are present.

over $25. Someone needed to know how to let go. Maybe the owners should have just said forgot the $25. Leave our store and don't come back. Seems to me like the best way to handle that situation.

Talked to the guy I work with down there. Said it's 8 miles from his house, almost stopped in last week, and didn't sound like he knew it had happened. It's a weird area, KKK is still active there among all kinds of weird stuff. This guys girlfriend lives on a houseboat next to one of the stars of swamp people.

As for who shot first from times picayune

Authorities say Michael McCool, 29, is accused of shooting both victims with a 40-caliber pistol. No criminal charges were immediately filed.

Doesn't really tell us anything. The gun store owner and his son were shot and killed. The customers (father and son) were both shot and hospitalized.

From: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/01/24/sheriff-gun-shop-shootout-over-25-kills-2-wounds-2.html
The men were told the gun had not yet been repaired, and one of the men reportedly became angry that he had paid a $25 service charge but did not yet receive his firearm.

Jason McLemore’s wife reportedly witnessed the encounter, and called her husband and son in an effort to keep the incident from escalating.

Kind of sounds like the customers were getting heated from the get go.

"During this argument, we believe there might have been some pushing and shoving," Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said, the Sun Herald reported. "One of the customers and one of the owners produced firearms. We don't know who shot first."

Frankly, I am not sure that "who shot first" is as relevant as who escalated a disagreement to violent aggression.

Two dead, two injured... all over $25...
