Would the parents not be arrested in some states for allowing him access to a gun?!
Good for him and his parents!

I don't know, firing 12 shots with 11 misses. He'd be dead if it turned into a gun fight

And the reporter has to inject some last sentence snit into it. What ever happened to reporting the facts?

I'm surprised here isn't anyone advocating the 11 year old planting evidence and hauling the intruder into the street to set him on fire. Maybe pull an eyeball out with pliers or something something similarly gruesome. That seems to be the in thing these days.

What do you expect from Slate?

Would you prefer they slap his hand telling him thats a no no and don't do it again? If it wasn't for the kid having a gun, who knows what that lowlife would have done to the kid. To bad the one hit didn't kill the SOB!

Honestly, I don't disagree with the kids response - I would add, however, if the kid has access to weapons that it should be the parents responsibility to make sure he knows how to use it. It would be interesting to know if the burglar was retreating after the first 10 shots or not, but that's another story. Obviously I'm trolling based on the Hang 'em High - due process be damned - vigilante rhetoric that I've seen here over the last week or so. I understand peoples outrage over crime, but is the answer to escalate the violence? I guess it is more macho and exciting to post something like planting weapons on fleeing suspects shot in the back and burning them to death than to take a more reasoned approach. It plays better on the Interwebz where we can all be as BadAZZ as our keyboards will allow us to be. We all know that crime is halted when Keyboard Kommandos write tough stuff on the internet - a real crime deterrent. Maybe it just makes a person feel better to get those violent thoughts out somewhere. I'd suggest a diary because the interwebz can be used as evidence against you should you ever be in a situation with a questionable outcome - guaranteed the prosecutor will love to see the violence expressed in a form that can be put up on a big screen for the Jury to read.

Yes is this state whomever left the firearm that a youth could access would be in legal issues. Due to our child access prevention laws, if anyone would try and charge them is a different story.
