I wish he would run for President.

Sheriff David Clarke: ‘Being Scared Is Not Enough,’ Get a Gun to ‘Fight Back’

Responding to trepidation caused by the Burlington, WA, mass shooting; the violent protests
in Charlotte, NC; the Minnesota mall stabbings; and other high-profile attacks, Milwaukee
County Sheriff David Clarke said, “Being scared is not enough.” Rather, Americans need to
have guns with which they are ready to defend themselves.

"Getting a gun to fight back" isn't enough. Buying a firearm and sticking it in a drawer is worse than useless. Without training in defensive use of a firearm, how and when to use lethal force, owning that firearm makes a person more dangerous to his friends and family than he is to any potential malefactor.

Owning a gun doesn't automatically make one safer. In many cases it puts one in more danger than they would be without the gun. A "firearms safety course" and being "familiar with the gun" are not enough to assure safe and effective use of a firearm in self defense.

Learning how to effectively and safely use a firearm for self defense. You don't learn that from your Permit to Carry course, nor from videos, nor from the internet. I'm confident that that level of training (none, in other words) represents the majority of the folks out there with guns on their person or in the drawer of their bedside table.
