NJ to refuse to do business with pro gun companies

New Jersey Will Refuse to Do Business with Banks, Retailers that Resist Stricter Gun-Control Measures
New Jersey’s Democratic governor, Phil Murphy, is expected to sign an executive order Tuesday that will leverage the state’s purchasing power to coerce gun retailers, manufacturers, and financial institutions to comply with a more stringent gun-control regime.

Under the executive order, the state, which purchases an estimated $70 million in firearms and related equipment annually, will refuse to do business with gun manufacturers and retailers that lack policies that deny guns to people with a history of mental illness or domestic abuse, the New York Times first reported. Retailers that wish to keep the state’s business will be required to “prevent, detect and screen for the transfer of firearms to straw purchasers or firearm traffickers.”

Murphy’s order will also deny the roughly $1 billion in financial-transaction fees the state pays annually to banks that have relationships with gun manufacturers and retailers that adhere to permissive policies.

New Jersey already has strict gun-control laws in place that require retailers to perform background checks, but the new policy will apply to out-of-state companies that are not bound by New Jersey laws.

So New Jersey won't do business with any manufacture that doesn't abide by what's already federal law?

Doesn't this infringe on the Federal government's jurisdiction over interstate commerce?

Spot on. Somebody just got a nice paycheck to consult the state of NJ on public records of companies breaking the law.

Remember Clinton and the S&W agreement?

I'm sure the manufacturers do.

Any manufacturer who tries to force their dealers to abide by the sort of restrictions that NJ would require will find their dealers dropping their line, rather than complying, because the buyers won't buy from a dealer who imposes those restrictions.

S&W saw their sales drop by half within six months, and was out of business in a year. (The current S&W is a different company tag bought the trademarks after the collapse.)

I, for one, will not buy any gun from any manufacturer who will sell to any NJ law enforcement or other government agency, under the terms of this deal.

So what exactly is the policy? Sounds like NJ just wants to create jobs by having a department to inspect firearm companies policies.

It isn't what he says, it's how he says it.

His voice and speaking pattern grate on my nerves.

That's what he talked about, I can understand how it could bother people. I find this Russian guy I am watching speaking high pitched fast paced heavily accented english discuss8ng the difference in two tanks and how to play them for the game World of Tanks difficult to listen to! He is one of the worlds best players so...
