Alec Baldwin To Be Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter Over ‘Rust’ Shooting - Forbes.com

Updated Jan 19, 2023, 11:41am EST

Alec Baldwin will be charged with involuntary manslaughter in the the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer on the set of the movie Rust who died last year when a gun in Baldwin’s hand fired, an undoubtedly surprising turn for Baldwin, who claimed he didn’t pull the trigger of the weapon and that he was told he most likely wouldn’t be charged in the incident.
Alec Baldwin speaks for the first time regarding the accidental shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, and wounded director Joel Souza on the set of the film ″Rust″, on October 30, 2021 in Manchester, Vermont.

New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said Baldwin, an actor and producer on the film, and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the production’s armorer, will each be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

Assistant director Dave Halls has agreed to plead guilty to a charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon, and will serve a suspended sentence and six months of probation.

The charges will be filed by the end of the month.

I know nothing about the hierarchy on a movie set, but the one person employed for their expertise in firearms and firearms/ safety - the armorer - failed miserably/ negligently/ lethally and should bear the brunt of this.
That's not to excuse Baldwin's negligent, and moronic behavior.

but then hollywood has always had disconnect from the real world.

I recall an idiotic statement from Robert Altman - producer of "Apocalypse Now", from the movie: "Hearts of Darkness - The making of Apocalypse Now", saying: '...we sent the cast to a gun range to fire weapons so they could get a feel for what it was like to kill someone...".

Baldwin was the director, he hired the armorer, and he also fielded complaints about firearm safety on the set, as well as being the trigger puller.

Alec Baldwin speaks for the first time regarding the accidental shooting

First time?

He's never stopped yammering about how it's everyone else's fault.

And it was negligent, not accidental.

After reading everything I could about this incident, I stand behind Baldwin.

You'd have to be nuts to stand in front of him
