Fine as far as it goes but how likely is a national reciprocity bill? I can see all the anti-carry states insisting that out of state permits won't meet their standards. Driver's licenses are uniform because of federal highway requirements which the states hew to or lose funding; I don't see anything analogous for carry. If they can't outright squelch national reciprocity the anti-carry states will insist on a clause allowing them to qualify permits to their state laws, which will doubtless make the permits invalid for every damn thing they can.

One big fly in the ointment is that each state has its own laws for self defense.

Self defense in Texas is very different than self defense in Massachusetts.

You need to be understanding of what the rules are in each jurisdiction.

My MN CCW gun is not legal in some states due to the laws there, or my ammo is illegal there. I like the idea of universal CCW, but don’t expect my understanding from my MN class applies everywhere.

So why did Trump wait until 2025, when he could have pushed for it in 2016?

Will he push for a reversal of the Bush bump stock ban? Re-open the civilian machine gun registry? Silencer deregulation? Probably not.
My gun collection has killed at least five fewer people than the Kennedy clan has with automobiles, airplanes and golf clubs.

Trump doesn't care about guns one way or another. He signed off on the bump stock ban when someone advised him that it was a comparatively cheap sop to the anti-gunners (which is still a long way from Trump being such a "gun grabber" that we were advised to boycott the Republicans in 2024). Basically if someone in Trump's cabinet is pro-gun and convinces Trump to push for deregulation it'll happen. Otherwise Trump simply won't care.

Yes, the Republicans have been and remain piss-poor friends of the 2nd Amendment. We really need a libertarian in disguise.

Why do so many people here want a president that curries favor with the anti-gun crowd?

We've been over this ad nauseum: Trump was the least-lousy option we realistically had. Hopefully the next four years will see us maintain/ expand pro-2nd Supreme Court judges, which has done more for gun rights than any amount of White House initiatives.

H.R.38 - To amend title 18, United States Code, to provide a means by which nonresidents of a State whose residents may carry concealed firearms may also do so in the State.
As of 01/09/2025 text has not been received for H.R.38 - To amend title 18, United States Code, to provide a means by which nonresidents of a State whose residents may carry concealed firearms may also do so in the State.

Bills are generally sent to the Library of Congress from GPO, the Government Publishing Office, a day or two after they are introduced on the floor of the House or Senate. Delays can occur when there are a large number of bills to prepare or when a very large bill has to be printed.

For those with poor memory, the Hearing Protection Act and National Reciprocity would have been signed by Trump during his first admin. The reason they weren't is Paul Ryan killed them before they could get to Trump.

First, the bills need to pass both houses. I think that's where they are likely to die.
