Sad instance of how compliance doesn't assure that no harm will come to you...

Fast-Food Manager Killed In Robbery
Manager Fatally Shot In Walk-In Cooler
POSTED: Monday, May 4, 2009
UPDATED: 10:32 am CDT May 4, 2009
HOUSTON -- The manager of a northwest Harris County fast-food restaurant was killed during a robbery, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Harris County sheriff's deputies said a man walked into the Popeye's on F.M. 529 near Addicks Satsuma Road as an employee left shortly after 11 p.m. Friday.
The man pulled out a gun, forced the manager to open the safe and told employees to go into the walk-in freezer, investigators said.
Detectives said that after taking the money, the man ordered the manager to go into the walk-in cooler and shot him to death.
The man was described as black, about 6 feet tall, heavy set with close-cut hair or a shaved head. He was last seen wearing a dark suit and blue shirt. He may have gotten away in a green four-door Honda or Toyota.

Yes, but based on the way the story reads, it seems like the business was already closed, meaning their would have been no customers present that may have been carrying a weapon at the time the incident occurred. And I will take a wild guess that Popeye's probably does not/would not authorize the management staff to carry a weapon.

It's too bad though, senseless violence.

I believe they are franchise locations, meaning that the owner of that establishment would set forth any kind of rules they feel like.

Possibly, I knew a guy who owned a McDonald's franchise, and they set pretty much every rule in the place and dictated how the store was to be run. They basically let the franchise owner eat the startup costs and still took a chunk of the money. You never know.
