MN State Highway Patrol Adopts SIG Sauer ROMEO4H Optic

Postby DanM on Tue Mar 26, 2019 11:20 am

From an article on The Firearms Blog; https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2019/03/26/minnesota-state-highway-patrol-adopts-sig-sauer-romeo4h-optic/

SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to announce the Minnesota State Highway Patrol has adopted the ROMEO4H red dot sight for the official duty rifle systems of the Minnesota State Troopers. The Minnesota Highway Patrol is comprised of over 550 troopers that concentrate primarily on traffic enforcement, highway safety, and statewide law enforcement.

It also goes on to say the while there are over 500 troopers, it has not been confirmed how many ROMEO4H sights have been purchased.

I’m guessing that they ordered over 500 units.

Why not aimpoint T2’s when it’s someone else’s money?

Are they really deployed enough to justify the need?

What would the threshold be?

I think the better question is how much are the riffles currently being used?

Probably not a lot. I doubt their handguns get used often either. Should we take those away?

No, but I wouldn't be in favor of buying expensive optics for the handguns. My taxes are too high as it is!

That is my point. Sure they are nice, but a lot of things are nice that they could use - Mercedes Benz squad cars, custom built sidearms, designer made uniforms etc.

I'm all for keeping them equipped and safe, but at what point do they stop being stewards of the peoples tax dollars. What exactly will those sites do that the officers without them found they could not do?

Seems like an extravagance. I'm willing to have my mind changed.

It is pretty well proven that an electronic sight on a carbine allows quicker target acquisition. Considering what this state spends money on, I think you guys are nit picking an item that actually makes sense.

So? How much are they used and in what capacity? I really doubt they are clearing buildings full of terrorists. I don't even see why they need the rifles to begin with.
