THE TRAGEDY OF MINNEAPOLIS
While it hasn’t yet descended to the level of Portland, the City of Minneapolis is sliding rapidly toward a point of no return. Meanwhile, local politicians are AWOL. They aren’t even coming out against crime, let alone doing anything about it.

The principal current focus of lawlessness is Uptown, formerly the city’s main entertainment district. Uptown is where Winston Boogie Smith opened fire on law enforcement officers who were trying to arrest him, leading to his own death. Expect his canonization any day now. Uptown has not been free from “protests,” which mostly means unchecked crime, in the weeks that have gone by since.

The problem is there's more power and money to be made running a city into the ground than properly running it.

Regardless of the political slant, Minneapolis is screwed because employers and employees aren’t going to be returning in full post covid. Employers and employees have figured out that working from home can work just fine. Most employers are going to be allowing office employees to continue to work from home and only come in for key meetings. My company is allowing people to create their own hybrid flex schedules. This is going to crush downtowns. They will never come back from this.

Throw on top of that the rampant increase in crime affecting the nightlife and recreational opportunities.

Were it not for the crime and mayhem, dntn Mpls would ultimately recover from the covid evacuations for the reasons you state - nightlife, and recreation opportunities in/ near downtown.
The athletic, music, atrs, and dining venues, as well as the lakes, and river front are great places...when they are safe.

Employee safety is also a concern for employers. The feedback they get from employees is that they don't feel safe in DT. Many would quit if forced to return to DT.

Its friggin sad to watch the twin cities crumble. Untill most employers tell this worthless POS mayor and governor that unless the police get fully staffed and funded to reduce crime, they will leave! Unfortunately its already spreading. St Cloud now has multiple murders/shooting each week. Dam democrats want nothing but mayhem. Would hope by now they eat there own and turn on these worthless democratic politicians.

Mid terms, next couple of election cycles should be telling and entertaining.

No they won’t. The fix is already in.

Given the luddite/ socialists lining up to run, and ranked choice voting, I'd be surprised if things don't get worse.

It was good while it lasted.
