City of Chicago employee attempted to sell machine gun while on the job: officials
CHICAGO - An employee of the city of Chicago's Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) is accused of trying to illegally sell an MP-40 automatic machine gun while working his shift.

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul says 38-year-old Charles Sikanich arranged to sell the weapon to an undercover ATF agent.

Sikanich allegedly showed up to the sale in a city of Chicago DSS vehicle. A review of Sikanich's timesheets revealed he was clocked in at the time of the prearranged meeting, Raoul said.

But I thought all the illegal guns there were brought by out-of-state individuals.

Majority of Guns Used in Chicago Crimes Come From Outside Illinois

Nearly 60 percent of guns recovered in Chicago come from out-of-state dealers, with more than 20 percent traced back to Indiana, according to a newly released report on the city’s violence.

Chicago is a gun free zone, there are no guns there, this is not possible.

If he’s 38, he certainly didn’t pick it up while serving himself!

It’s kind of a shame that we can’t preserve history like those due to the cut off of registration.

Typical Chicago otherwise.

I'm shocked and appalled that he didn't wait until he was off work......there has to be a section in the employee handbook telling him illegal weapons sales while on the clock could get a severe reprimand.....he could have at least punched out for lunch.....most illegal gun dealers are such upstanding citizens....shocking......he must also not be aware that gun ownership is highly regulated....looks like they need another law to cover this exact situation and then this type of incident will stop....it should be VERY sternly worded.....lots of capitalized words for emphasis.....that'll do the trick.....

Pretty certain they need a sign posted.
