Suicide bombing in Moscow

(Reuters) - A suicide bomber killed at least 31 people at Russia's biggest airport, Moscow-Domodedovo, on Monday in an attack that bore the hallmarks of militants fighting for an Islamist state in the north Caucasus region

Looks like they didn't bother with getting on a plane and just decided to blow up the crowd. This was bound to begin happening sooner or later...

Update:

35 dead, 150 wounded. Much shrapnel in the walls. The bomb was equivalent to 7 kilos of TNT.

The bomber was of dark complexion, 30-35 years old, supposedly from North Caucasus. Just before setting himself off he screamed "I will kill you all!". They are looking for three accomplices. Apparently, this was something that the authorities knew was brewing but failed to catch in time.

I wonder if this will result in checkpoints to just walk into an airport. Ugh.

Maybe we could send them our TSA.

One could hope. However, realistically, I think we will probably see TSA getting to be more of a PITA and less effective.

Sadly, I think you're right. Last year, we drove to AZ and the whole hassle of going through their gauntlet was part of the equation. considering what they've been up to since then, there's no question, we'll be driving again.

It has been this way in Israel for years. You'll go through two or three levels of security before even entering the terminal.

Yeah, but they are staffed by Israelis who are both better trained and better motivated than the TSA. Maybe better paid, but I'm not sure on that one. You certainly don't hear much about groping over there.

Israel is also flanked by unfriendly countries...so they have better boarder security, something this country is completely lacking.

The Israelis don't look as hard for bad items (2 oz shampoos and nail clippers) but instead focus on looking for potentially bad people. Normally these are going to be young Muslim men, of course, so this is something we would never do here because everyone would think it racist. So instead we'll keep on patting down grandmothers and 8-year old girls from Iowa just to be fair.

Yep,
and probably shut down airport on-premises parking,
and maybe even drive through drop-off and pick-up too.....
they have been waiting for this.... :hammer:

AFAIK, they look for behavior rather than appearance or ethnicity.

Personally, I think that fixating on Middle Easterners is a bad idea, especially here in US. We have tons of converts who look like anyone and we know they can be radical enough. Also, there are radical Muslims from parts of Caucasus and the Balkans who don't fit the type either, and they are far from rare.

This will not happen in the U.S. It is to logical.

If it wasn't for the bomb show loophole, this never would have happened.

If they had an AWB, this tragedy could have been avoided.
