Mayor Bates,
I have been following the recent developments and resolution stating that the USMC is not welcome in Berkley.
You realize, of course, that you are allowed to to do things like this because we are a free country..............whose freedoms have been guaranteed in large part by the brave unselfish deeds by members of our armed forces.............in particular the US Marines.
Shame on you and your city council for the actions you have taken.

Mayor Bates and the Berkley City Council,
I have been following with interest the events regarding the Marine recruiting station in your city. Your actions, based on emotion, rather than real knowledge of facts, are appalling, to say the least. I read a book by Ernest Callenbach called Ecotopia.Written in 1975, it is about the west coast of the US seceding because it felt that it had better solutions to the environmental and social problems which the country faced at the time. Perhaps the city of Berkley should look into the idea. In the interim, I fully support withholding all Federal money for the city of Berkley until such time as you come to a decision.
Sincerely,
nyffman
Minnesota
