The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office has released video of a Woodbury police officer crashing into a Wisconsin State Patrol cruiser after a high speed chase.
The chase, which originated on Manning Avenue in Woodbury, happened early in the morning of February 9th. It led Officer Jeff Gort into Wisconsin on I-94 where two deputies from the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office and a Wisconsin State Trooper eventually took over. Speeds exceeded 80 miles an hour.
Authorities say they laid down two sets of stop sticks which the suspect managed to avoid. The third set, laid in the eastbound lanes of I-94 about ten miles east of Hudson, worked. The suspect stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road with the Wisconsin authorities stopping on either side.
Authorities say Officer Gort continued to pursue the suspect, and video from his dashboard camera shows he apparently did not realize the suspect and the other officers had stopped. The video shows Gort crashing his squad car into the rear of the State Patrol vehicle, which in turn struck the suspect's car.
Nobody was injured, and police arrested 30-year-old Jared Boucher of Somerset, WI. Boucher is charged with fleeing an officer, and his fourth offense of driving while intoxicated.
Authorities say Boucher had led them on a chase in Hudson earlier that morning after an officer tried to pull him over.
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
