According to the article: "The resident showed quite a bit of restraint. He continued to yell at the suspect to leave the house and said he was armed. The couple even locked themselves in a room to try to avoid a confrontation. They had no way of knowing if the suspect was armed. The resident was clearly forced to shoot to defend himself and his girlfriend."

According to the article, this happened in Washington as well, not Indiana.

Did the couple really have to shoot and kill this man? I mean, why couldn't they have just shot him in the leg to make sure he couldn't walk and wait for the cops? This just doesn't seem right.

I stand corrected. Never heard of it which is odd considering I've been to South Bend and the rest of Northwest Indiana more times than I can count. Seems odd that it would be south of South Bend.
