Thought I would share.... I have my own opinion on this situation but I'd like to hear yours. Clearly the elderly man missed his target, whether that was his intent or not who knows, but lets just say the robbers were serious and fired back.
I have a little super hero in me too, but I'm just saying, to me this wasn't a smart move.
I wonder how many pages this one will be debated LOL. Looked like he handled it pretty good. They were violent when they came in, and he didn't what for them to get too far into the place and acted. They both left with lead in 'em, nobody else was hurt. The Old Dude gets the win in my book.
He hit both guys; a person doesn't automatically drop when they get shot, especially with a .380.
You'd think prospective hold-up men in Florida would know better by now. I remember years ago a robber at a restaurant was shot by not one but two geezers.
"HE GOT AHEAD OF THEIR OODA LOOP AND INTO THEIR PANTS THEY DID POOP"
Go Pops....
I'm betting our 71 yr old Geezer has had some practice. A) he decided to ACT
He was ACTING NOT RE-ACTING. OODA loop is a concept originated by the original dogfighting Jet Pilots...the Jet Pilots not the prop fighters of WWII.
I guess it was the 50's and the hardware of jet fighters was growing by leaps and bounds as we were full tilt in the Cold War w/ Soviets....the engineers came to the best fighter Pilots and asked them what did they want...more raw speed or greater manuverability.
John Boyd was among them:
The ideas of U.S. Air Force Colonel John Boyd (1927-1997) have transformed American military policy and practice. A first-rate fighter pilot and a self-taught scholar, he wrote the first manual on jet aerial combat; spearheaded the design of both of the Air Force’s premier fighters, the F-15 and the F-16; and shaped the tactics that saved lives during the Vietnam War and the strategies that won the first Gulf War.
They asked for greater manuverability as it worked better with the strategy of
OBSERVE, ORIENT, DECIDE, ACT
which is a constant 'loop' of actions in combat...if you can get ahead of your opponents OODA loop you will be able to defeat him.
The GEEZER took the initiative from the THUGS.
and they were forced to flee.
I like the way he's charging straight into the fight.
I want more of this story, I will bet he had rehearsed his actions and when the bat-wielding thug smashed the first computer screen he realized 'THE **** HAS HIT THE FAN' and went right into action to di-sect the Aortas of the Perps.

It's hard not to pick apart what he did, not gonna though. Glad everything turned out for the better of those patrons.
Is this a regular occurrence at this Cafe? No one seems all to bothered by the guy with the gun? I don't like it when my own gun ends up looking at me!, I would of crapped my self and hit the deck! Or.... became infuriated with rage that he had the audacity to point a gun at me and taken action too! I pray I will never have to find out!
Now, let's play name that gun!!!!!! The winner gets... Nothing!!!!!!! Looks like a TCP !?
Molon Labe! HEY! Once this girl said, "It's not You, It's Me". I said, "Dang Right It's You! You Heffer!" Si

I did not read that in my skim my bad. However, I have been taught "shot to neutralize" and those spots are usually the deadly ones. I'm not trying to point out that he missed but more so that if he was sitting in the back corner did he need to spring into action given it's 2 on 1 or could he have maybe called the Police first.
I agree though, good for him, he appeared to know what he was doing and I'm glad everything worked out.

Second guessing??? Not the intent Sir... I asked for opinions about the situation. I believe I gave him an 'at a boy'. If you'd like to add something please do so constructively.

Probably wasn't directed at you then.
Constructively, I don't carry a .380

It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

That's what action looks like. He could've, froze, or fled.
Hell yeah, Geezer!

Lets say this was in MN. Initially, drawing and firing appeared to be "legal" by MN lethal force standards. However, and please correct me if I'm wrong, did the old guy then cross a legal line by what appears to be pursuing the bad guys, continuing to fire? Again, by MN legal standards is what the question is concerning.
1911 Fan quote in memoirium about carrying: The purpose of a firearm in a defensive situation is to make the other guy leak from holes he was not born with. Your job is to install those orifices for him.
