I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I've heard reports that the shooter was a white male with no ties to the temple. My gut says it's a racially motivated crime perpetrated by someone who is too stupid to know the difference between a Sikh and a Muslim. We shall see...

Details don't matter, still a terrible act whoever the shooter was

Although I agree that it is a terrible act no matter what, I don't agree that details don't matter. Although massive and senseless violence is not new, I'm perceiving an uptick in the past few years. It would be nice to know if that perception was warranted, and if it is, what caused the uptick.

Who knows why people are motivated / inspired to do these kinds of things. It's unfortunate that these types of incidents keep popping up around the country. It is to the point where we say where is it gonna happen next? Hopefully it won't.

This serves as a reminder to be alert.
This is a terrible tragedy again in less than a month, thoughts and prayers to all affected.

The Brady Bunch wasted NO time getting their message out on this one - the blood dancing was near instantaneous.

We talked about it with some neighbors and family at last night's BBQ. My position consisted of 4 points, similar to CO:

A) This is a horrible tragedy by a deranged psychopathic extremist.
B) I didn't do it.
C) My firearms didn't do it.
D) I now have an additional excuse to carry at Church.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

The Foxnews story was playing up the shooters military background. It looks like he served six years in the army - FOURTEEN years ago.

That's likely as relevant as which pre-school he went to...

The anti crowd is harping over the fact that he's a white supremacist and somehow shouldn't have been allowed to legally purchase his handgun despite not being convicted of any crime. A dishonorable discharge isn't a disqualifying offense on a 4473, right?

Edit: I stand corrected. Shooter was NOT discharged dishonorably...

GUNMAN ID'D
Authorities said Page enlisted in April 1992 and was discharged from the Army in 1998 "under honorable conditions," which is less than honorable discharge. While not as negative as a dishonorable discharge, such a release would preclude one from reenlisting or entering another military service, sources explained to Fox News. Reuters reported that the discharge was for "patterns of misconduct," including being drunk on duty.
