Police: Gun Used In Deadly Home Invasion Stolen From LMPD
Suspects Shot, Killed By Homeowner

Louisville Metro Police said two teenagers shot and killed Tuesday during a home invasion were using a gun stolen from the police department.

Earl Springer, 19, and Dazmond Turner, 19, were shot by Billy Jackson, 70. Investigators said the pair forced their way into Jackson's West Broadway rental property and threatened to kill him and his wife.

Police said the gun was stolen in a separate burglary, but it was unclear whether Springer and Turner committed it.

Jackson told WLKY Newschannel 32 he faked a heart attack, then kicked the gunman in the leg, before firing upon both men. Springer died on the scene and Turner later died at the hospital.

Homicide Lieutenant Barry Wilkerson says his office is still trying to determine whether Springer and Turner will face charges posthumously.

The Commonwealth's Attorney's office will determine whether Jackson acted in self-defense.
