Gun alert Email

Postby LarryP on Thu Dec 20, 2012 3:21 pm

A email I received. Look at number 3!!!

Dear larry,

Yesterday morning, Barack Obama held a press conference confirming our greatest fears...

He's launching an all out campaign to pass comprehensive gun control:

1. A so-called "Assault Weapons" Ban,

2. A "High-Capacity" Magazine Ban, and

3. A ban on ALL Private Firearms Sales without government permission

And he wants the legislation on his desk as early as January.

If you haven't signed your Second Amendment Protection Petition that Dudley sent to you below, please do so right away.

If you have signed, please forward this to anyone you know cares about our gun rights.

depends on what "gov't approval" means. i believe this proably refers to the nics check. allready in place for all dealers. looks like the aim is to make ALL sales subject to it.

Well, that seals it for me. Cashing out the 401K, Roth IRA, ESPP and options. I'm investing in guns.
To the two forum members who have used lines from my posts as their signatures, can't you quote Jesse Ventura or some other great Minnesotan instead of stealing mine? - LePetomane

I wonder how # 3 happens without tying a gun to an owner(aka registration)?

No way to track it, doesn't mean it's not illegal...kind of like selling drugs or something....

The only way you could ban all private transfers is a gun registry and audit process. It would astound me if somewhere along the way infringement wasn't declared.

ll transfers would seen to include borrowed firearms. Do we do a check when someone borrows a deer rifle? How about when he returns it? Guns used by a fanily or co-owned. A trust or corpoation may own guns. Guns inherited or found in an old barn.

There should be a way to do it without hirng an FFL. (People can file their own taxes.) How to audit transfers. and records of transfers if FFL not required. Who is liable for mistakes?

I don't think they can get this ready in Jan. Also the legal description of an "assault" gun wil have changed a bit. Most AR rifles arre used for sport; in Minnesota it's the coyote rifle. In Dakotas it's a dog rifle. It also comes in 308 and other calibers, I assume folks hunt deer bear and wolves with ARs now. As far as I know it's the top selling sport rifle; at least where I live.

Republicans seem stubborn, and I think that they will be in no hurry. After the first of the year the news will have to focus on something else. I'd bet this will string out. They can do something to reduce the size of the magazine, I don't think the Obama bill will happen soon. He may make an executive order whcih would be decided in court if congress properly does nothing.
