If it was honest insurance, priced by honest actuaries, it'd be almost free.

If you disregard the Constitution I could see this as being acceptable.

Before they require gun owners have it, they should make pet owners, restaurants, and a number of other people get it.

Not surprising to see stuff like this come from the left.
Donald Trump got more fat women moving in one day than Michelle Obama did in eight years.

How is this different than a mandate to purchase health insurance?

Don't let the antis hear that...

(there isn't a difference, but that mandate is also wrong. More wrongs don't make a right).

It would be another example of crony capitalism. Don't give the Gov any ideas.

How is this different than a poll tax .. the one was designed to price people out of exercising a right ... so is this ...

Yes, they are serious. This is being proposed in several states right now...

They did interview a guy that picked apart the argument that insurance would be a viable option.

Like you know, most of the murderers are gang members who don't give two hoots about buying ANY kind of insurance.

Well, some people here think it should be required to show an ID when they vote. A logical comparison can be made to have a background check when they buy a gun...

But of course, we know that voter ID is just a voter suppression tactic, and insurance on guns is pretty much the same thing, right?

Ellison floated the insurance idea to the crowd last night, ASKING for their opinions on it. Then cut off the responses when too many people opposed it.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

It would sure be a slippery slope to start going down.

Maybe they could require a uninsured/underinsured gun owner policy from everyone that does not own a gun. :)

The voter ID would have been a good idea if they would have allowed more time (maybe a year or two) and easy access to getting ID's for elderly and low income people.
