The city attorney in Stillwater is considering charges against a 76-year-old Cottage Grove man who was teaching a gun safety course when a handgun accidentally discharged inside a school cafeteria last Thursday evening.

Negligent, however......

(sigh). Remove the magazine, pull the slide back, check to make sure there are no rounds chambered. Once sure there are no rounds, check again. Now that you are certain the gun is not loaded, keep in mind; the gun is loaded.

No ammunition in the classroom isn't just a good idea; it should be the standard. There is often no truly 'safe direction' in classrooms, as bullets can and do go through walls, and/or cause richochets/fragmenting and spalling.

Any incidents must be reported, proactively. This means not by a 14 yr old kid to one parent in their car on the way home.
