Lake Phalen Update

Postby ttousi on Sun Sep 21, 2008 9:26 pm

You may or may not remember that the Lake Phalen beating victim is a friend of my family. Tammy (the victim) attended a family function today and the following update is from my sister. (I was unable to attend).

Tammy had another round of reconstructive surgery on her hand (s) about 2 weeks ago. She has gained quite a bit of the mobility back that she lost from the attack. Her mood is positive and upbeat.

We (sis and I) have not pushed the self defense & handgun carry which I offered her after the attack. Instead, waiting for the opportunity to present itself and then reminding her of it. Well the subject came up today in a roundabout manner and Sis said “well remember what Tom offered ……..no charge…..etc” She is ready mentally if not physically at this time.

I am hoping to at least do the classroom part and possibly (depending on mobility) some range work in Oct. Many of you offered to help out in the past …..If you still feel that way let me know. I don’t want to overpower her in a classroom setting but the range practice time after would be invaluable. I shamelessly ask for any donations that would help the cause……range help, range passes, ammunition, etc. I will be donating my time and range and classroom fees, if any, for the initial training as well as any further needs. Any help would be appreciated. More details as they develop.

Thanks

I will donate any help on the range you need and I do have quite a few boxes of factory 9mm sitting around.

Let me know what you need.

I'm not sure what I could possibly have to offer, but if you can think of anything I can do to help, just say the word.

Good question. Find one she likes, and a collection can be taken up to get it for her.

It sounds much like the initail permit class is pretty well covered. If though, she wants to continue and do some defensive based training, count me in.

Tom,
Count me in for anything you might need.

With her hand injuries & inexperience, I know you'll be starting her out with a small caliber, but if she has small hands and wants to eventually try a 9mm I have the P239 w/houge grips :D

If she would ever like to buy a gun, I'll be more than happy to bring/meet her @ Bill's North so she can try several of the rental guns (no charge) to make sure of the one she wants. Of course, no obligation to purchase it from Bill's. (I know some of you guys out there and the talent you have for finding good deals) 8-)
