Dot Dot Dot......Who was her Instructor.

If this were minnesota, I think a few of the instructors here would be pissed. This is possibly an example of a 'permit holder' (the story says 'legally owned'....I hope she is not a permit holder) who doesn't know their ass from their elbow.

LADY, YOU DON'T FIRE YOUR GUN INTO THE AIR IN AN APARTMENT COMPLEX PARKING LOT TO SCATTER SOME BOYS WHO ARE HARRASSING YOU....EITHER LETHAL FORCE IS JUSTIFIED ....OR IT'S NOT.

This is why Police Chiefs don't want the public to have guns. I'm going to assume this clown IS NOT a permit holder and has not had even minimal training....Just a 'legally owned' gun.

In Minnesota I don't see a lot of 'Good People with guns doing Stupid Things' stories

We do of course have hundreds of 'shots fired/shootings/ reports of gunfire' every month in Minneapolis but RARELY is a permit holder involved....that point is always checked in the local news stories....they'd love to tar and feather a permit holder.
A Woodbridge woman was arrested after she shot a handgun into the air to scare off a group of boys who were attacking her daughter.

Lakisha Gaither, 35, said she fired a single round into the sky from her legally owned gun Saturday night after a boy punched her daughter in the face during a dispute near their home.

“I just wanted this group of guys to disperse,” Ms. Gaither said. “I didn’t know what they were going to do. I wanted him to stop hitting my child.”

The shooting occurred at 9:20 p.m. in the 13600 block of Cridercrest Place. After confronting a teenage girl and her mother in the neighborhood over a prior disagreement, Ms. Gaither and her 15-year-old daughter, Brianna Stewart, began walking home. A group of about 10 boys approached them in the parking lot of their apartment complex. One boy began to swear and insult Ms. Gaither and her daughter, who stood up to the boy.

“The two were face to face,” Ms. Gaither said. “He grabs her shirt, she goes to push him off her.”

Ms. Gaither said she realized she’d be putting the both of them at risk if she jumped into the fray.

“I stopped and turned to walk to the middle of the parking lot. I made sure no one was around me,” she said. “I unholstered my gun, pointed it straight in the air and fired just one shot to get him off my child.”

Ms. Gaither said she didn’t try to get away, and police eventually arrived.

“I didn’t feel like I was wrong,” she said. “I wanted to protect my child.”

But officers arrested her and charged her with reckless use of a weapon.

Prince William County police spokesman Officer Jonathan L. Perok said Ms. Gaither “should have called police instead of taking matters into her own hands.”

“You can’t fire into the air,” Officer Perok said. “Once something goes up, it comes down. There’s the possibility of causing property damage, injuring someone or killing someone. In an apartment complex, the odds of that bullet coming down and striking something are very high.”

No injuries or property damage were reported after the incident, but Officer Perok said police do not encourage confrontation and urge gun owners to use their weapons only in what they perceive to be life-threatening situations.

“The fact she stepped away from the crowd kind of shows she was not in an immediate danger type situation,” he said. “She may have been trying to break up the fight, but that’s not the proper course of action to take.”

My guess is that she remembered what Uncle Joe Biden said but didn't have a double barreled shotgun.
Donald Trump got more fat women moving in one day than Michelle Obama did in eight years.

Here is part of the answer/reason....
Pay $19.95, take an online class, get your VA carry permit.
Sounds like a bad infomercial.
Quotes are from the site FAQ below:
Many of our experienced students complete the course in less than half an hour. :o

If you watch our video, the test will be incredibly easy for you to pass even if you have no prior firearm experience. We have a 99.9% first time pass rate.

I especially like this one...
Does your certificate mention that this is an online class?
No. Our certificate states the name of our organization, your name, the date of completion, your enrollment number, and a signature of our state-recognized instructor.

As a present resident of Virginia... Here are some facts....

-Woodbridge is one of the outer suburbs of the D.C. area.
-Woodbridge is part of the high-population-density, "blue", soccer mom, part of Virginia (Woodbridge has an IKEA... nuff said  )
- Virginia has no-permit-required open carry (so wasn't necessary a permit holder).
- Permit requires some kind of firearms training. Military service, NRA class, Hunter Safety, online class all count.
- No real understanding of the legal aspects of the law required to get a permit.

If this happened in MN, it would not be good.

If this were MN. the sharks would be salivating.

She does not have a permit...she carries 'openly' no permit required in VA.

The fact that MN REQUIRES A PERMIT...helps prevent this kind of uninformed behavior....WHAT THIS WOMAN DID WAS JUST STUPID.

A Virginia mother was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm after she fired a warning shot to stop a boy from physically assaulting her 15-year-old daughter on Saturday night. One day later, the teenager went missing.

Lakisha Gaither, 35, told NBC Washington that her daughter, Brianna Stewart, 15, had been involved in an argument with a group of teens in their neighborhood in Woodbridge, Va., on Saturday. At one point, another teenage girl, apparently angry at Stewart, showed up to their home with two boys.

In an attempt to squash whatever feud was going on, Gaither reportedly went to speak with the other girl’s mother. However, when she arrived at the apartment complex, the same boys who had shown up at her home earlier that day were there as well. The mother claims one of the boys proceeded to punch her daughter in the face repeatedly.

“He punched her in the left eye, knocking the eyeglass lens out of her glasses, into her face,” Gaither recalled.

Desperate to put an end to the attack, the mother, who open carries “everywhere” she goes, pulled out her firearm and fired a warning shot in the air to get the boy off of her child.

Knowledge of the law and comporting your behavior to its requirements are two different things. I haven't seen a study that shows our education requirement helps or hurts. Life is in danger or it isn't. It doesn't take an 8 hour class to learn that concept.

Yep; education can fix ignorance, not stupidity.
