Chicago man pulls gun in store over 22-cent soda tax

Postby ttousi on Tue Apr 15, 2014 7:19 am

Police accuse a Chicago man of pulling out a submachine gun in a convenience store because he didn't want to pay a 22-cent tax on a two-liter bottle of soda.

Prosecutors say Shelton pulled out a blue-steel Intratec .22-caliber submachine gun and threatened to kill everyone. Authorities say he told police it "is my neighborhood, I'm tax exempt."

Shelton is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and having an invalid Firearm Owner's Identification card.

The way I read the above reporting, I would infer that a felon could get a FOID card.

I think his problems are a lot worse than complaining about the tax

The last line of the article states:
"Shelton doesn't have a listed telephone number."

What does that have to do with anything!?

I suspect it was done as a courtesy to any attorney who may wish to offer their services on behalf of the accused.

submachine gun?
I presume they meant (if they even know the difference) a semi-automatic version of a gun that has also been manufactured in full-auto. Unless that's an "assault weapon".

And was it Feinstein who called for banning any gun that could be bump-fired?
