my opinion is that you need to pick age appropriate activities and if you must, weapons.

I am sorry if I appear insensitive. My condolences to all involved.

But, I think this should receive a nomination for a Darwin Award.

I think it is a good idea to put only one round in a semi or full auto magazine when teaching new shooters, then work up from there.

Why was this instructor on the left side of a right handed shooter?

I thought I was going to see something similar at Ahlman's last Saturday. I was waiting to shoot a S&W M76 (9mm sub-machine gun) and the person shooting before me was a boy about 9yo. He was told to kneel down but just squatted trying to balance on his feet. Every time he pulled the trigger it almost knocked him over backwards. My girlfriend and I took SEVERAL steps back. Couldn't believe they (kid's dad and the guy running that area) didn't put a stop to it.

jealous of those kids! not for killing just for getting to shoot full, they don't even have to buy the rounds!

shouldn't they work up # of rounds in the mag :( starting with zero? rather than handing over a stuffed one and talking about stance and grip?

'' Allright! Allright Full Auto! '' doesn't seem right either when ''teaching'' a kid, just a little too enthusiastic?

I wonder if its real? not saying the outcome is hard to believe... but a vet and instructor behaving as such_ maybe after his lobotomy

I don't know how to embed sorry. don't worry it doesn't have the end.

Didn't watch it, but it sounds like a planned cute video gone bad.
Likely there's at least one adult still alive to be held accountable.
They really saddled the kid with a life long burden.

Maybe I'm naive, but I can't shake the feeling that this was avoidable. I understand that the place where this happened was some kind of tourist stop? Firearms aren't F'ing toys!

I recently took my 15 year old son (who is 6'3" and weighs 230) shooting for his first time out. I waited this long to do so until I felt he had the maturity and ability to respect the weapon I was about to place into his hands. As it was, he was only allowed to load and fire one round at a time until I was confident in his ability to manage the recoil. Then he moved up to two rounds at a time and so on. If I were ever to put a weapon like a full auto UZI into his hands, it would be under the same conditions as how he learned on my pistols; start with one round and slowly working his way up to two, then three, etc, etc.

WTF would make anyone think it would be a good idea to hand a Uzi pistol to a small framed young girl? With the possible exception of a MAC10 I can't think of a harder to control weapon for a shooting novice.

I agree with xd ED, this young lady will be burdened with a lifetime of anguish.
I will never apologize for being an American.

Pure stupidity on the part of both the parents and the range staff.

Apparently it's age and height that make you a competent shooter, not skills, supervision and training.

Reading some info from a local:

The range has implemented new rules.
Must be at least 12 years old and 5 feet tall, among some other minor changes.

Anyone want to make bet as to how soon some states/ municipalities propose legislation to combat the ignorance and stupidity behind this tragedy?

I was thinking the same thing... while it's a very sad incident, it certainly isn't common - yet they'll make some law over it.
