Americans Bought ‘17,850 Tons’ of Imported Ammo in Last 12 Months

As gun sales have skyrocketed over the past 19 months, ammunition sales
have also surged, with “17,850 tons” of imported ammunition being sold
in the past 12 months.

That is nearly 18,000 tons of ammo in a year’s time and approximately
“2,865 tons of bullets” that were imported in November alone.

I'm doing my part. (7) firearms since the divorce last summer. If you count the "bug-a-salt" I just got at goodwill for 6.99

Are those metric or imperial tons? Big difference.

True, it's not the same, but they are pretty similar.

1 imperial ton = 1.016 metric ton

I suppose when you multiply it out, I wouldn't wan to right a check for the equivalent in cash, but it's pretty close...............

I did my part. 303 Brit, 6.5x52R (25/35), 5.6x52R (22 Savage Hi-Power), 7.7 Jap, 6.5 Arisaka, 7.62x54R, 7.62x39, 30 M1 Carbine, 308 Win, 22/250, 223/5.56x45, 8x57, 7x57, 9mm Luger, 32 S&W, 32 ACP, 38 S&W, 45 ACP, and probably a couple others I can't think of at the moment from Norma, Prvi Partizan, Sellior & Bellot, and RWS. If brass counts too, then add some Norma and Prvi Partizan 303 Savage to the mix.

I forgot, I did buy a box of .22 Auto-Match at Joe's about 2 years ago. So, I guess I did my part.

In cleaning of my shop, I found the box of 5,000 22LR, a 30cal ammo can full of 22L bulk, a partially filled 50cal ammo can with 22LR bulk, and a multi-box mixture of 22LR in various factory boxes.

Since the kids moved away, I don't shoot 22LR much anymore especially since I gifted the 22 cal firearms to my children before they left to their respective corners of the USA, although Adam is currently flying tanker missions out of Qatar. I did keep my 10/22 and a Ruger Mark III 22LR pistol (and a 22 bolt-action from my mother-in-laws estate).

Nearly every thing else I reload except for the 7.62X39 that I bought for 6.7 cents per round, and the 7.62X51 that I bought for 7 cents per round. Both of these were imported and are Berdan primed but for that cost it is worth it. The 7.62X51 was extremely dirty of outside of cases but after tumbling in walnut shell in my cement mixer it all cleaned up very well (no kabooms in mixer as I filled it nearly full of media to prevent any hard hits).

Now if anyone knows where I can get 22Magnum, it would be greatly appreciated as my wife's supply is running low.

Scheel's in Rochester had a bunch of .22 Mag yesterday when I was there and Fleet Farm (as of last week). Cabela's (in Owatonna, at least) has had quite a bit of it for several months. The stuff at Scheel's was on sale for $12.99/box of 50. I've seen it on the shelf at H&H in Maple Lake and Ahlman's in Morristown, but that was months ago - might be worth a call if you can't find it anywhere else.

The one thing that I'm not happy about is the overwhelming amount of things we are importing from communist nations right now. When I look at firearms and see "Made in China" - that just seems wrong to me. I haven't seen any ammo like that, but it's only a matter of time.

Back when I had an SKS, I bought a lot of the true surplus steel-cased 7.62x39 which was obviously imported. The Chinese cases seemed to crack on me, where the Russian stuff didn't. So, I stayed away from the Chinese junk.

Other than some Aguila rimfire ammo, I don't think I purchased any imported ammo in the last several years. That makes me curious, though, and I'll start paying more attention.

I have a Chinese milled receiver AK that I am quite fond of. Import away let the markets sort out the junk.
