Is Remington getting too good a deal in rifle settlement?

Postby minnesotatv on Wed Feb 15, 2017 7:26 am

The federal judge considering a landmark class action settlement involving
7.5 million allegedly defective Remington rifles is raising new concerns about
what he called the "exceedingly small" number of gun owners who have filed
claims to get their guns fixed.

Class action lawsuits are scam. They accomplish nothing except to extort large sums of money from corporations, to line the pockets of lawyers.
I will never apologize for being an American.

I HATE class action lawsuits. Trial lawyers getting rich.

While the original Remington trigger may not have been perfect, ending up with a bullet in your buddy's butt requires several unsafe actions on the part of the shooter as well.

You shouldn't have a settlement that puts a company out of business....

In this case I agree with you but I do not believe this to be an absolute statement. There are negligent acts that should put a company out of business and sometimes the settlement is the means to that end.

Of course, but the morons who sparked this "class action" were being unsafe in the first place...and replicating the actual defect is really hard to do. No point in bankrupting the company over something lawyers and activist judges initiated specifically TOO bankrupt the company.

That is correct. The rifle doesn't "just go off".

You have to: Load it> Put it on safe> Screw around pulling the trigger with it on safe > Take it off safe > It MIGHT go off.

It is more likely to be a problem if you have adjusted the sear engagement too light in the first place. It will not lead to injury or death unless you have it pointed at something that can be injured or killed (not a safe direction).
