When a cop is off duty, he should not be allowed to violate the private property rights of the rest of the population. It's not about training, or capability, or some abstract notion of police are the protectors of everyone else. It's about rights.
The arguments posed in this bill evidence the belief that police officers should have the right to do things the rest of us can't, and can also violate the wishes and property rights of everyone else, not as part of their official duties, but anytime they want, because they're cops.
This attitude should disgust anyone who cares about individual rights. It will most likely pass, but it's wrong, and those who support it are wrong.
