Security guard - false report after negligent discharge

Postby INOR on Thu Sep 14, 2017 7:26 am

Filed a false police report saying he was shot and giving suspect description. Campus was locked down as a result while they searched for the assailant. Turns out he was supposed to be an unarmed security guard but had brought his personal handgun and had a negligent discharge when he was handling it. Bad week for that guy. Shot himself. Filed false report. Watched police investigate and waste resources and college locked down. Was forced to come clean. Got arrested and charged. And will now no doubt lose job.

Doubt he had a shoulder rig. If he wasn't supposed to carry in his job (which sounds to be the case here), that wouldn't be a very concealable holster unless he was wearing a coat. And even if wearing a coat, probably too much of a detection risk. Agree that it is odd that he ended up shooting himself in the shoulder though.

Another update...of course he had to say the imaginary assailant was black. Ugh. Latest article says they don't know if he had a valid permit to carry or not.

Why would you be playing with it? If you are carrying for protection, why would it ever leave the holster? Lots of noodle heads playing "operator" out there. The only bright spot is that he shot himself, he will have a scar to forever remind himself of what an incompetent dooofus he is. I hope his mother takes away his video game privileges and forces him to move out of her basement.

Makes anyone who wants to carry or own a gun look bad.

[quote="INOR"]. Latest article says they don't know if he had a valid permit to carry or not.

Again not relevant to the issue - was carrying at his place of employment!! St Kates may have rules against it - but no law says he can not carry at his place of employment. Many other factors come to play, but not a permit to carry.

You say it's not relevant to the issue. And I would agree. But public perception holds otherwise. I agree that douchebags like this put all gun owners in a bad light.

My guess was fumbling the gun and catching it wrong. If so, he's lucky he didn't kill himself.

I've read of hikers or mountain climbers being billed for the cost of a rescue. Maybe he'll get a bill from the city.

His actions will likely render his degree for law enforcement useless and get him kicked out of police training program he is/ was in. Probably saved another MPLS resident from being "accidentally" shot.

I suspect he was in his car, handling the pistol by either concealing it, or removing it.....and then dropped it and caught it. If he was unlicensed, then the probability that he was carrying without a holster goes up exponentially, too.
