Anyone Else Notice?

Postby BigDog58 on Thu Mar 08, 2018 4:20 am

After watching several different "news" casts, where they are refering to shootings or gun control, they are now referring to the AR-15 as an "Assault-Style" firearm. I just noticed their change from Assault Rifle, to the "Assault-Style".

Either way, it's still BS, but I found it interesting to hear the change in terminology.

Yeah, it’s kind of how global warming became climate change.

They could call them doggy style and it won’t matter those that like them will like them and those that don’t won’t.

At least it's more correct terminology. I also haven't heard the term "clips" as much anymore.

I've been hearing "military style" rifles.

Let's start referring to them as "military appearing rifles" (MARs for short) or something really simple in social media posts. A simple message repeated can get into the vernacular.

Modern Sporting Rifle is the preferred term.

Agreed, but, hear me out on this....

The antis are fixated on the word "military. " By using the words "military appearing", it can highlight the arbitrary absurdity of banning a Colt 6920 while allowing a Ruger Mini 14 Ranch due to "appearance"

I would respectfully disagree.

The anti's use the word military, the same as the word assault, as a pejorative to invoke an emotional response.

Agree'd, to anti's the military is bad and it's also not the citizenry. We don't want to use words that create a divide. Anti's will say it's for military and citizens aren't military.

We've been fighting the meaning of militia since 1791 lets not do the same with this.

Indeed, military terminologies, and inferences have crept into the lexicon of the antis.

Look no farther than the Ramsey County Sheriff's (and media's) reporting on the recent incident in Vandals Heights.

"...cache of weapons...

...an arsenal...

...dozens of weapons and bombs seized..."

Nothing wrong with "modern, sporting rifle";

modern materials and technology, designed and built for recreational purposes...

Material usage may change appearances, and technology improves performance, but function remains the same.

How about when they call them "Weapons of war". Well muskets were weapons of war too.

That second one is clearly more dangerous, it has the black thing that goes up and no doors.

It’s a “defensive rifle” that’s what most people buy it for.

I disagree with that. Most people buy them for sport, competition, or just fun... with a side benefit that they can be pressed into defensive service if needed.
